It used to be that Rocky Falls was very difficult for non-locals to find, but the National Park Service has helpfully placed directional signs. The photo above is from the NPS, and it shows the falls after a heavy rain….they’re usually much more placid than this. The first time I saw the falls, I was poking around on a fall day and decided to take the Highway H shortcut from Ellington to Winona….somehow wound up on NN and from there a short drop to the falls down a gravel road.
There’s a great swimming hole at the bottom….not deep, but perfect for kids. I only mention this because it’s a well-known swimming hole. My real favorites are a closely guarded secret.
